I’ve been exploring job opportunities for the past year plus. I’ve had a long, successful career as an IT PM, and what I’m seeing in the market now demonstrates clearly just how unsettled and uncertain the future is for me in that field – and how much of it is reverting to old-school in-office requirements. I’m also coming up on the 20-year anniversary of my Reiki/Seichim Master attunement in June. So it’s time for me to pivot. I’m going to let go of my technical past and turn toward the healing that has been the subtle undercurrent of my various corporate leadership roles.
Particularly given our oldest Husky’s diabetes, and our youngest Huskies’ need for supervision and training, it’s time for me to be focused on the peace of our home life. Being at home will also give me the flexibility to continue writing without the stress of a corporate existence. Virginia is in the upper third of cost of living in US States, so we’ll also be getting creative with developing multiple income streams to make sure we stay on top of our financial obligations. One thing I will definitely NOT miss: Corporate Speak. And offering a small healing practice will also contribute to avoiding dementia – which is rampant on my dad’s side of the family, so an area of research I track.
As noted, I will continue to write. Since I’m in the midst of a sci-fi story, studies about how poorly sperm fare in space, a recent slew of Starlink satellite failures, and preliminary findings from the most recent Artemis mission, all caught my attention. Additional research on a potential breakthrough in solar energy conversion that would break the current 30% utilization limit defined by the Shockley-Queisser constraint was also inspiring.
On the health research front, menopause and perimenopause are both a personal concern as well as a newly sexy area of research. I’m incredibly grateful to have found a functional medicine practitioner who has helped me navigate this era with significantly more grace than the litany of symptoms listed in that article. She’s also militantly anti-carb, so I was entertained by this recounting of bread facts. I tend toward a certain Stoic philosophy of moderation in all things, so I continue to resist removing a key food staple from my life.
While starting up a new business will necessarily take time and focus, the steps we’ve already undertaken have improved the flow of qi through our house, and will, I suspect allow me to regain focus on my story. I would still like to complete it this year to revamp/revitalize that other piece of my working history. Stay tuned for my progress reports.
