Cover Reveal: Fire to Dragon

RED SLAVES: Fire to Dragon, by Tonya CannariatoFinally, for the real excitement that is driving me to edit, the new cover for the third in my Red Slaves series, Fire to Dragon. Once again, I have to thank Kelley York for coming up with the branding conceit that carries across all three novels, includes dragons, and has the photo-reality that was always my goal for this series. When you’re writing in a world that is mostly real and certainly recognizable, that last needs to be reflected in the cover. Given the paranormal component, though, that was not easy until Kelley pointed out that this is ultimately a personal story, told from Anne’s perspective alone. I’m very pleased with this evolution in my covers, and look forward to releasing the updated books over the next few months.

With the new cover art established, you will also note I’ve updated my Facebook and Twitter header images, as well as gained a new Twitter icon–also all courtesy of Kelley. I’ve already written her a Facebook review, but seriously… if anyone needs a freelance graphic designer, she’s the one you want.

Cover Reveal: Dust to Blood

RED SLAVES: Dust to Blood by Tonya CannariatoThey say “third time’s the charm” and I think there may be some truth to that. Certainly in this case, it’s taken years of consideration to come to the conclusion that our first inclination on this series was the right one: There needs to be a photo-real component to the cover, given the urban fantasy genre. And given the dragons at the core of the story, there really needs to be a dragon recognizably mixed in to it as well. Figuring out how to handle that with some consistency across the trilogy was the sticking point. With help from Kelley York at X-Potion Designs, I think we’ve finally hit all the right notes. Since I’m re-editing the first two books in this series, too, in the run-up to finishing edits on book three, it feels like a good time to start to get everybody excited about the resolution to the series that kicked off my author career.

The Builders Cover Reveal

As you will have noticed if you’ve been following me in recent months, I’ve been working on my latest novel. The final draft is done and off to the editor, so now it’s on to cover love… Gayla pulled off another great one–which was a difficult task, given an alien protagonist who was genetically engineered to wear the median skin tone of all earthlings. I have to tell you… There aren’t many options for people of color as cover models. Even fewer that are interracial between two women. So we took off in the direction of the galaxies through which they travel. I’m very proud to share this with you:

The Builders

Given where the story is in the editing process, I suspect my estimate of a July release remains reasonable. I’m really looking forward to sharing this one with everyone.

Dragon’s Pursuit Cover Reveal

As I mentioned in a post in January, I have signed up to be one of the authors participating in the Hotel Paranormal series. This week, I got the final version of the cover for my book. I’m so stoked I can hardly contain myself, so I wanted to share it with you:

Hotel Paranormal: Dragon's Pursuit, by Tonya Cannariato

The story is slated for release in early January, so it’s along way off–and I need to finish the Red Slaves trilogy that inspires the events in the story, too. It will be a stand-alone spin-off about one of the next-generation dragon shifters that I’ve already half plotted. I’m looking forward to writing the story, and with such a glorious cover to help me keep my eyes on the prize, it should be an easy one to write.

About the Book

Only a fool crosses a god, but Ellaeva and Lyram will do anything to get what they want.

Chosen as a five-year-old orphan to be the Left Hand of Death, Ellaeva has nothing to call her own—nothing except a desire to avenge her murdered parents. Her duties leave her no time to pursue the man responsible, until both her work and revenge lead to the same place—the lonely castle where Lyram Aharris is serving out his exile for striking his prince.

Lyram is third in line for the throne, and when the castle is unexpectedly besieged, he fears his prince means to remove him from contention for the crown permanently. Ellaeva’s arrival brings hope, until she reveals she has not come for the siege, but instead she hunts the castle for a hidden necromancer dedicated to the dark god of decay.

Within their stone prison, Ellaeva and Lyram must fight to save themselves from political machinations and clashing gods. But as the siege lengthens, the greatest threat comes from an unexpected quarter.

About the Author

Ciara Ballintyne grew up on a steady diet of adult epic fantasy from the age of nine, leaving her with a rather confused outlook on life – she believes the good guys should always win, but knows they often don’t. She is an oxymoron; an idealistic cynic.

She began her first attempts at the craft of writing in 1992, culminating in the publication of her debut work, Confronting the Demon, in 2013. Her first book to be published with Evolved Publishing is In the Company of the Dead.

She holds degrees in law and accounting, and is a practising financial services lawyer. In her spare time, she speculates about taking over the world – how hard can it really be? If she could be anything, she’d choose a dragon, but if she is honest she shares more in common with Dr. Gregory House of House M.D. – both the good and the bad. She is a browncoat, a saltgunner, a Whedonite, a Sherlockian, a Ringer, and a Whovian… OK, most major geek fandoms. Her alignment is chaotic good. She is an INTJ.

Ciara lives in Sydney, Australia, with her husband, her two daughters, and a growing menagerie of animals that unfortunately includes no dragons.
