New Round, Old Goals

Multiverse theory: Somewhere, within the quantum foam of existence, amongst the very building blocks of reality, there is a universe where you ... are BATMAN.It might be that I’m punchy. It might be that I’m feeling at least slightly overwhelmed most of the time these days. It might also be that the idea of committing to goals that I’m pretty sure are both laughable and potentially out of reach makes me feel a tad punch-drunk. However, it is mandated that the beginning of a new Round of Words in 80 Days begins with goals. Which makes me feel aligned with the silliness in the image to the right.

I am BATMAN!

I have a good friend and colleague at work who has a saying about “feeling like a superhero” on those days when we’re most battered by life and struggling to accomplish all that needs to be done. I’ve had more days like that in the past few months than I like to admit to. Intellectually, I suppose it could have something to do with being in the midst of an MBA and a day job whose parameters seem to continue to expand. But those don’t feel like valid reasons to continue to miss my personal writing goals.

So I’m back again. Pretty much with the same goals as the last round:

  1. Produce at least 1,000 fiction words per week
  2. Blog at least once per week
  3. Walk at least 5 times per week for a total of at least 7 miles
  4. Turn in all course assignments on time

We’ll see how far I get with that. I do at least have 5K more words on the final book in my trilogy than I did when I began last round–though that feels paltry, given the volume of words I need to produce to finish. I’m moving in baby steps for the moment, and will have to find what contentment I can in that slow progress. Meantime, see how everyone else is progressing with their goals.

  1. Thanks, everyone, for the support. It’s odd how some days “being a realist” sounds an awful lot like being a pessimist, so I’ll just keep on reporting and keep on plugging away. 🙂

  2. if you so hard on yourself now what will you be like by the end? – be kind to yourself – you are already doing amazing stuff, baby steps are fine – keeping momentum going but not even Batmen can turn a 24 hour day into a 48 hour days – goals are just that goals – they are not set in cement. All the best and please please be nice to yourself:)

  3. I am with you on turning course assignments in, as well as keeping up on reading. Good luck with coursework and your writing goals! Also, since you’re Batman, I have no problem being Nightwing for this round. Just sayin.
